The morning time is a great opportunity to set the tone for your day ahead. When I say kick start your day the “right way” I mean what is right for you and your lifestyle. Morning is an important time of day, because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have.
Below are some top tips that could be useful to boost your morning routine and ritual.
“You snooze, you lose”
Try to avoid the daily temptation of the snooze button. Chances are if you do hit snooze, you will wake up feeing groggier than when you first naturally woke up. As tempting as it is to lie on (which can happen) remember the benefits of getting up and not rushing your way through the morning. Another tip is to step outside for a minimum of 2-5 minutes, the morning daylight will send a signal to your brain that it is morning and it will refresh and revive you for the day ahead.
“Less scrolling, more strolling”
Morning screen time and scrolling on your phone can decrease your productivity levels for the day ahead. Before you realise, you could be scrolling for 45 minutes in bed. My theory is “If I have time to scroll, I have time to strolll”. By implementing the simple swap of a walk rather than wasting time on your phone could be very beneficial for your mental and physical wellbeing. Even though the weather may not be ideal, aim to get out for some mornings for walk before breakfast. It doesn’t have to be a long walk but any movement or exercise in the morning, your mind and body will thank you for it.
“Hydrate before you caffeinate”
The benefits of drinking water throughout the day are well documented. However, after sleeping for eight-ish hours, the body and mind is in need of hydration. Making a habit of knocking back your first glass in the morning can help a lot. By putting out a glass of water on their bedside table the night before could serve as a little reminder. Or maybe you are a fan of cold water, therefore make sure to pop a fresh jug in the fridge before bed. Whatever works for you!
“Good food = good mood”
In my opinion the best part of the day is breakfast/brunch. Take time to nourish yourself for the day ahead. We simply can’t run on empty. Like an engine of a car, as humans we need fuel and energy daily. Food is fuel and there are so many options for a balanced breakfast that will help you kick start your day in the best way. An idea that may help is to pick your three favourite breakfasts and rotate them each day. Also, if you are like me and enjoy a wee cup of coffee or tea, take time to savour it. ( The first sip hits differently in the morning)
